OrderPaperToday– Tijani Kayode Ismail is a newbie member of parliament who has been described as a greenhorn. This is because he has held no elective position before his emergence into the lower chambers of the National Assembly.
After defeating candidates from other political parties to represent Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun federal constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives, he has a record of zero bill in the first half of the 9th assembly.
Mr. Ismail, no doubt, is a loyal party man. He had expressed confidence that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration would succeed in making the nation safe for everyone to live in, provide easy access to health facilities for Nigerians, and create greater access to education.
However, he did not sponsor any bill in the first two years of his four-year term as a way of demonstrating his support for the administration. Despite the fact that lawmaking is one of the key responsibilities needed of him as a legislator, his record shows that he introduced zero bills at midterm.
The populace can interrogate his blank record on bills sponsorship, since it may be stated that he has created grounds for question about his capacity as a lawmaker.
Perhaps his performance on representation and oversight functions may cover up for him as they are also key responsibilities of a lawmaker. He may do better in the remaining years of the 9th assembly.
He is the Chairman of FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters Committee in the House of Representatives.
