The lawmaker representing Niger North Senatorial District, Mohammed Sani Musa, has made a case for the North Central geo-political zone to clinch the seat of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday at the National Assembly, he argued that the North Central has consistently supported the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) and given the party massive votes, as evident in the recently held Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Musa, who chairs the Senate Services Committee, pointed out that the Muslim-Muslim issue might be taken into consideration to balance religious sentiments, stressing however, that the final choice lies with the APC leadership.

The lawmaker further disclosed that the APC, at a recent meeting in the State House, advised them to hold back on their ambitions till the release of power-sharing (zoning) arrangements. Hence, he will wait for the party’s decision before making a formal announcement of his ambition.

“This is a real ambush. Why don’t you wait till when I will make my declaration, but since you decide to ask me, I will say there is no office that deserves to be zoned to the North Central than the Office of the Senate President.

As a party loyalist, and having an interaction with the party leadership before the Governorship and House of Assembly elections at the Presidential Villa, the National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, requested that we all keep our intentions until when the party decides to release the zoning formula. Be that as it may, and as we can all see, the Muslim-Muslim ticket, which I am sure will be addressed, we will queue in and decide to make our declaration. Just as I said earlier, I would not want to pre-empt the party; I will wait for the decision of the party,” Musa said.

Whatever is the interest of the North Central as one of the geopolitical zones that gave the President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu the highest votes. If you look at the difference we gave to APC and the votes we gave to PDP, we have the largest. And these things have been happening for a very long time.

Each time, we align with the governing party in the North Central, so I believe by the time they deal with the zoning, we will be able to see what is left for us,” he added.
