MIDTERM: Akinyelure, the heavyweight champion of Senate petitions

OrderPaperToday – Sen. Akinyelure Patrick Ayo (PDP, Ondo North) has scored the highest number of petitions sponsored in the Senate at midterm.

He set the pace by singlehandedly sponsoring two hundred and ninety six petitions in the first half of the 9th Senate; more than double of the total petitions by other one hundred and eighth senators.

As part of his several petitions, Akinyelure sponsored petition against the Minister of Education over an appeal to follow due process in the appointment of National Institute for Educational Planning Administration, Director General and other Chief Execution Officers position.

Similarly, he sponsored petition from Abah Anthony on behalf of the Olanyega National Community Development against Iwewe Community and others for alleged violence, arson, destruction of lives and properties.

Meanwhile Akinyelure sponsored two motions during the period under review, of which one was on the state of insecurity in the nation and gruesome murder of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Pa Ruben Fasoranti the nonagenarian leader of Afenifere on 12th July, 2019 from Ondo Central Senatorial District by some armed gang and kidnappers along Akure-Ore-Lagos highway.

In part of his submission, he urged the Senate “to draw the attention of the Federal Government to the rising level of insecurity level of insecurity and tension in different parts of the nation and the cries of citizens over the incessant armed attacks on the major highways with many lives lost in the several attacks.”
