EFCC slams Okorocha with N2.9b fraud charge

OrderPaperToday -Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District and former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has been charged with N2.9 billion alleged fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It was gathered that EFCC filled a 17-count charge against the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant on Monday before a federal high court in Abuja.

The development coming hours after Okorocha formally declared his interest to run for the office of president in 2023.

According to the commission, Okorocha allegedly conspired with others, including a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and five companies, to divert N2.9 billion public funds to personal use.

Other defendants are Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited.

Recall that the EFCC arrested and grilled Sen. Okorocha in April 2021, for two days over issues bothering on alleged corruption.

He had, on several occasions, been accused by the Imo State government of various corrupt practices including diversion of public funds, but had denied all.

Sen. Okorocha was a two-term governor of Imo State, serving from 2011 to 2019 before his election into the senate.
