OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives has called on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to rebuild police stations destroyed by the menace of boko haram in the North-east part of the country.
The House also urged the Inspector General of Police to design modalities for partnering with well-meaning investors to renovate existing barracks and build new ones where required.
The resolution of the House followed a motion titled “Urgent Need to Renovate Police Barracks across the Country” sponsored by Mr. Hassan Saleh at Wednesday’s plenary session.
M. Saleh expressed worries that thousands of residents in the barracks live in uneasy calm in untidy environment rather than with peace of mind and comfort which is necessary for an effective discharge of their duties.
Mr. Asabe Bashir from Borno State amended the prayers of the motion to include that all police stations destroyed by the Boko Haram violence in the country be renovated.
The House to this end mandated its Committee on Police Affairs to monitor action on the motion and report back on quarterly basis for further legislative action.
