OrderPaperToday – Senator Ben Bruce has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) on how to implement its campaign promise to pay N5000 to unemployed graduates in the country.
In a series of tweets from his Twitter handle this evening, Bruce disagreed with his APC colleagues in the senate who have been advancing excuses as to why the N5000 stipend payment cannot be implemented by the Muhammadu Buhari now.
Recall that the senate had witnessed a rowdy session last week over an attempt by Sen. Philip Adudua to make the upper chamber adopt a motion in favour of the implementation of the promise
On how to source funds for the programme, the senator from Bayelsa State said “every salary earner should pay a 5% unemployment tax to help pay 5k to unemployed graduates.”
Sen. Bruce advised the APC to sieve the data of potential beneficiaries of the scheme from several biometric registration government has embarked on instead of complaining of lack of information on unemployed citizens.
According to him, “with the details from the BVN, PVC and National ID card, it’s possible to identify unemployed graduates and pay them,” saying it is not true that there is no database or money to pay the N5000 unemployment benefit.
He also congratulated wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari for championing the cause of paying the money.
