OrderPaperToday – Midway into the ninth National Assembly, two of the three senators from Sokoto State have shown low level performance in motions and petitions sponsorship.
First, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC, Sokoto North) recorded zero in motion and petitions.
Wamakko who is serving his second tenure in the Senate is one of the former governors whom Nigerians perceived to have turned the red chamber into “retirement benefit”.
Just like Wamakko, Sen. Ibrahim Danbaba (PDP, Sokoto South) equally dropped nothing in the motions and petitions basket.
However, Sen. Gobir Ibrahim Abdullahi (PDP, Sokoto East), who has been serving as senator since 2011, appeared to have followed a slightly different pattern with the single motion he sponsored during the period under review.
Gobir sponsored a motion on rampant kidnapping and killing of people in some villages in Sokoto senatorial district.
He urged the Federal Government “to send relief material to those villages affected by this disaster and those people who fled to the Republic of Niger; and to send enough military personnel and fighter jets to apprehend the bandits and restore normalcy in these areas”
Gobir’s motion constituted 0.7% of the motions sponsored in Senate at midterm.
Meanwhile, Wamakko led Sokoto Senate team on bills sponsorship in the period under review.
