OrderPaperToday- Ofumelu Vincent Ekene is a newbie in the parliament and he is serving as the Deputy Chairman Committee on Women Affairs and social development of the House of Representatives.
Record shows that he is the only representative who did not sponsor any bill at midterm (June 2019 – June 2021) out of the eleven members that are flying the flag of Anambra State in the current 9th assembly.
Mr. Ekene, who is representing Oyi/Ayamelum federal constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), started his political career as a student of the renowned Anambra State University, now Odumegwu Ojukwu University. He was an active member of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as well as a student activist.
Nonetheless, Mr. Ekene’s lack of bill sponsorship at midterm, may have been made up for by his efforts on representation and oversight functions that is required of him as a legislator. A good record of performance on those aspects would convince the people of his constituents to consider him a worthy representative.
Given the benefit of doubt, he is still learning the ropes of lawmaking since he is a newbie.
Bills may perhaps, be tied to his name for the remaining years of the 9th assembly.
