Reps Threatens NNPC over Oil Swap Probe

OrderPaperToday – The House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on Refined Product Exchange Agreement has ordered the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its subsidiary business units to submit all relevant documentation to it before Wednesday next week or face the law.
The committee is probing the circumstances and operation of certain crude oil swap and Offshore Processing Agreements (OPA) the oil corporation entered into with some marketers and overseas refineries under the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
Chairman of the Adhoc Committee, Mr. Zakari Mohammed issued the threat on Thursday when the Committee met with three other agencies involved in the ongoing probe.
Mohammed said while the Nigeria Custom Service (NSC), Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and NEITI has submitted their documents, the NNPC is yet to respond to the Committee’s letter requesting for the document even after a reminder has been written to them.
“If by Wednesday 12noon the report does not reach the Adhoc Committee, the House will throw its weight to make them face the wrath of the law”, he said.
Among documents requested by the Adhoc Committee are: Documentation on contract deeds, annual report on revenue loses if any and any other documentation that will assist the Committee in carrying out its investigation.
The Adhoc Committee also vowed that the probe will not be swept under the carpet like other probes.
It would be recalled that a motion on the probe had been brought on the floor in June and the House resolved to carry out the probe by setting up the Committee.
