OrderPaperToday – Former Minister of Power under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, Prof. Barth Nnaji, has refuted claims in some quarters that the unbundling of the power sector is a failure despite some shortcomings in generation and distribution.
Prof. Nnaji stated this while fielding questions at a public hearing organized by the Senate Committee probing the power sector on Wednesday in the National Assembly.
He noted that mismanagement has played a major role in the sector’s full actualization stating however that a forecast of 20,000 megawatts to be generated by the year 2020 was still realizable.
The former minister also identified transmission constraints and availability of gas as some of the hurdles that have hindered the effective execution of the set goals of the power sector.
He however pointed out that if all spheres of the sector perform as planned, progress will be made despite challenges of funding power generation.
