A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Segun Olulade has taken a dig at Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State for condemning the ruling of the Taraba Governorship Election Tribunal.
Olulade who represents Epe Constituency 2 in the Assembly, said Fayose is not well informed on the 2010 Electoral Act (as amended). The Ekiti governor described the tribunal judgment as a miscarriage of justice and one which would not stand in the court of God and man.
The tribunal on Saturday nullified the election of Ishiaku Darius of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared that Aisha Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election
According to the Lagos lawmaker, “Fayose is probably not in tandem with the provision of Electoral Act, which mandated the conduct of valid primaries by all parties as condition for legitimate participation in the general elections.”
Mr. Olulade expressed optimism that Alhassan would eventually become governor after the appeal processes against the tribunal ruling would have been exhausted.
He also said the Taraba case signals that the first female President of Nigeria can emerge in less than 20 years from now.
According to the lawmaker, “if a woman can emerge a Governor in a state where there are millions of men, then a woman can emerge the President of Nigeria sooner than expected.”
Olulade also lauded the verdict of the tribunal headed by Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, stating that era of impunity orchestrated by PDP in the past has been laid to rest.
He called on the PDP to accept the verdict in good faith and begin to put up mechanism for entrenching internal democracy, which according to him is lacking in the party.
