First elected to parliament in 2019 under the platform of the Peoples’ Redemption Party (PRP), the Executive Committee of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State approved the suspension of Rep. Shehu from the party for 12 months over allegations of insubordination to the party leadership and
anti-party activities.
The lawmaker thereafter defected to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in February 2021. He would, however exit the party to join the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) in a bid to get the party’s Senatorial ticket for Bauchi South District.
He eventually lost the ticket to the incumbent Senator, Lawal Yahaya Gumau.
