President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday signed the Appropriation Bill for the 2023 fiscal year, six days after its passage by both chambers of the National Assembly.

At the brief ceremony televised from the Council Chambers of the State House Abuja, the President noted that the aggregate expenditure as contained in the budget is N21.83 trillion.

According to a copy of the document passed by the Senate and House of Representatives last Wednesday, which our Correspondent sighted, over N200 billion is allotted to the National Assembly and associated institutions in the breakdown of statutory transfers.

National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) – N10.555 billion

Legislative Aides – N16,520,653 billion

Public Accounts Committee (Senate) – 118, 970 million

Public Accounts Committee (House of Reps) – 142,764 million

General Services – 11,307,475 billion

National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) – N7.411,813 billion

Service Wide Vote – N671,335 million

Office of Retired Clerks and Permanent Secretaries – N1,059,121 billion

Appropriation Committee Department – Senate – N125, 000 million

Appropriation Committee Department – House of Reps – N165, 000 million

The passage of the N21,827,188,747,391 budget passed by the National Assembly marks an increase of N1,319,246,566,677 from the initial sum of N20.5 trillion presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to a joint session of the National Assembly in October.
