Lawan calls for speedy resolution of ASUU Crisis

Meanwhile, the Senate President on Sunday called for a speedy and amicable resolution of the ongoing negotiations between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Lawan who made the appeal as part of a ‘May Day’ message to Nigerian workers, praised Nigerians and their labour productivity in general, stressing it as the reason that the welfare of the Nigerian workers should always be accorded priority.

“Despite the prevailing challenges, the relationship between Labour and the Government should be cooperative in the overall interest of the country.”

“We should always be mindful that no society can make meaningful progress without industrial peace and harmony,” he added.

Buhari’s weakness is responsible for Nigeria’s persistent security crisis – Shehu Sani

A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has said adduced President Muhammadu Buhari’s weakness to take decisive actions as the reason for Nigeria’s persistent security crisis.

Senator Sani disclosed this on Saturday, during a Twitter Spaces Conversation titled ‘Insecurity and 2023 General Elections,’ stressing continuous allegations of collaboration between security agencies and terrorists as well as bandits.

“People in the position of leadership are failing and they will keep on failing because we have a president who is too weak to take action on his subordinates.

If you preside over as a security man, military personnel or intelligence, or you preside over the local government or state and attacks are happening continuously in your place and nothing is being achieved, it is the responsibility of the president to remove such kind of persons and bring new persons,” he added.

‘Condition of Abia workers worse than labour exploitation,’ says Lawmaker

The member representing Aba South in the Abia State House of Assembly, Obinna Ichita, has decried the condition of Abia workers following months of unpaid wages.

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) lawmaker stated this in a goodwill message on the Workers’ Day celebration, accusing the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration of owing a backlog of salaries.

Urging the workers to “stand and fight for their rights now,” he stressed that the condition of workers in the state was worse than labour exploitation, with the  owed workers confirming a disregard for their plight.

“Only the oppressors and/ or their agents would dare call today a happy workers’ day. The reality on the ground confirms that it is not a happy workers’ day in Abia state.”
