Benue State, in north-central Nigeria, has a total of fourteen members in the National Assembly, comprising three senators and eleven representatives in the House
Benue State, located in north-central Nigeria, was established in 1976 as one of the seven states created at that time. The state takes its name from the Benue River, Nigeria’s second-largest river after the Niger River. Benue shares borders with Nasarawa State to the north, Taraba State to the east, Kogi State to the west, Enugu State to the southwest, Ebonyi and Cross River States to the south, and also has an international border with Cameroon to the southeast. The state is predominantly inhabited by the Tiv, Idoma, and Igede people, with minority ethnic groups including the Etulo, Igbo, and Jukun. The state capital is Makurdi. The Igbos are also found in boundary areas such as the Obi, Oju, and Ado Local Government Areas. Currently, Benue State is governed by Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
