Between June 2019, when the Ninth Senate was inaugurated and June 2022, a total of 1,009 bills were sponsored by lawmakers in the Chamber. Out of this tally, ten first-term Senators sponsored 200 bills representing 19.8% of the total number
This scorecard for first-term lawmakers thus highlights the top ten newbies in the chamber with the most bills sponsored in the period under review

Muhammed Sani Musa (APC)
Representing Niger East Senatorial District has largely been a businessman before joining politics in 2019. Since his inauguration into the Senate in 2019 and June 2022, the lawmaker sponsored 38 bills.
Early 2022, he ran for the Office of National Chairman in his party; the All Progressives Congress (APC), but lost to the current occupant of the office; Senator Abdullahi Adamu. He has since secured the nod of his party to seek re-election in February 2023.
Uba Sani (APC)
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking and Other Financial Institutions, Sani represents Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Red Chamber. A force in the civil society movement before joining politics, he moved to the Senate in 2019.
He has so far, sponsored 31 bills in the period under review including a bill that has been assented to, by the President. The former aide to Governor Nasir El-Rufai will not be returning to the Senate in 2023, as he pursues his dream to succeed his political mentor whose tenure as Kaduna Governor expires in May.
Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (APC)
Representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters has so far sponsored 23 bills in the period under review.
A former member of the 7th House of Representatives, he ran for the Office of Governor in Ekiti State in 2014 under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) but lost to ormer Governor Ayodele Fayose. He also served previously as Commissioner of Information and Strategy in Lagos during the first term of then Governor Bola Tinubu.

Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah (YPP)
The lone male Senator from Anambra State, he represents the Southern Senatorial District of the state and has sponsored 20 pieces of legislation in the period under review.
An influential voice in his party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP), he had previously aspired to become governor of his home state under the platform of the Labour Party (LP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), but lost.
Gyang Istifanus Dung (PDP)
The lawmaker representing Plateau North Senatorial District is the only sitting Senator from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in his State.
A former member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Constituency in the Eighth House of Representatives, he has so far, sponsored 18 bills since his move to the Red Chamber.
Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe (APC)
Representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, the medical doctor-turned-politician has 16 bills to his credit in the period under review. Additionally, most of these bills are health sector-focused including the Mental Health Bill recently assented to, by the President.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, he was, however unsuccessful in getting his party’s nod to return in June 2023.

Enagi Bima (APC)
The lawmaker representing Niger South Senatorial District is the Acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture.
In the period under review, he has also sponsored 16 bills.
Suleiman Abdu Kwari (APC)
The Lawmaker Representing Kaduna North Senatorial district has so far sponsored 15 bills in the period under review.
The Lawmaker has been a former member of the House of Representatives, Commissioner of Finance and Local Government Chairman. The All Progressives Congress has since secured the nod of his party to return to the Federal Legislature.
Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev (PDP)
A former member of the House of Representatives, the lawmaker moved to the Senate in 2019 where he currently represents Benue North East Senatorial District. He has since then sponsored 12 bills.
Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (APC)
A member of the 7th House of Representatives, she moved to the Senate in 2019 where she currently represents Adamawa Central Senatorial District.
The lone female lawmaker from the North-Eastern State, she has since 2019, sponsored 11 pieces of legislation including a bill seeking to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Mubi, Adamawa State, which has been signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Aishatu Ahmed is popularly known in her home state as “Binani” and will be poised to make history as the first elected female governor in the country if she wins the March 11 2023 election for her party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
