According to OrderPaper’s Annual Report on the Ninth National Assembly, a total of 1,009 bills were sponsored in the Senate in the last three years (2019 – 2022).
Of this number, the Presiding and Principal Officers (with the exception of the Senate President) sponsored 103 of these bills representing 10.20 % of the total number of bills sponsored by lawmakers in the Red Chamber between June 2019 and May 2022.

PRESIDING OFFICERS
The lawmaker representing Yobe North Senatorial District sponsored zero bills in the period under review. Senator Lawan, who has been at the National Assembly since 1999, belongs to a distinct class of lawmakers referred to as “Landlords of the National Assembly.”
Having served two terms in the House of Representatives, he became a Senator in 2007 and was made Senate Majority Leader in 2015 before his election as President of the Senate in 2019.
The lawmaker representing Delta Central Senatorial District has sponsored 25 bills in the period under review.
Omo Agege was elected to the Chamber on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) in 2015 and was re-elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019; same year he became Deputy President of the Senate.
He is the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress in the March 11 2023, Governorship elections in Delta State.

PRINCIPAL OFFICERS (MAJORITY CAUCUS)
Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir
Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Gobir, represents Sokoto East Senatorial District and has been a recurring face in the National Assembly. He has sponsored nine bills in the period under review.
Robert Ajayi Boroffice
The lawmaker representing Ondo North Senatorial District is the Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate. Senator Boroffice who has been at the National Assembly since 2011, sponsored five bills in the period under review.
Orji Uzor Kalu
Representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Kalu, who doubles as Chief Whip of the Senate has 25 bills to his credit in the period under review,
A two-time governor of Abia State and 2007 Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA), he became a Senator in 2019 and is seeking a return to the National Assembly.
Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi
Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, the lawmaker representing Niger North Senatorial District has so far, sponsored nine bills in the period under review.
He will not be returning to the Red Chamber in June 2023, having lost his return ticket to his State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, who is seeking a seat in the National Assembly as his eight-year tenure as State Executive winds down

PRINCIPAL OFFICERS (MINORITY CAUCUS)
Philip Tanimu Aduda
The lone lawmaker representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Minority Leader of the Senate, has so far sponsored nine bills in the period under review.
Before his election to the Senate, he had served two terms in the House of Representatives as the member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2011. He also served in 1996 as the Councillor representing Karu Ward, Abuja.
Shuaibu Isa Lau
Representing Taraba North Senatorial District, Senator Lau has so far sponsored two bills in the period under review.
The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate secured the nod of his party to return to the National Assembly and will be contesting the February 25 National Assembly Election.
Chukwuka Godfrey Utazi
The lawmaker representing Enugu North Senatorial District is the Minority Whip of the Senate. First elected to the Senate in 2015, Senator Utazi has so far sponsored 16 bills in the period under review.
Danjuma Tella La’ah
Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, Senator La’ah represents Kaduna South Senatorial District. In the period under review, he has three bills in his name.
