10th NASS: Composition of House of Reps Standing Committees

In terms of gender distribution, one hundred and twenty-four (124) male members chair ninety-three per cent (93%) of the Committees, while nine (9) out of the fifteen (15) female members of the House chair seven (7%) of the committees.

Seven weeks after the inauguration of the Tenth National Assembly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas announced the Standing Committees of the 10th House of Representatives to enable the Chamber perform its oversight functions over the executive.

The one hundred and thirty-four (134) Committees announced on July 27 2023, are chaired by members from all six geo-political zones of the country. While the leadership of the Committees is spread across these zones, lawmakers from the North West and South West geo-political zones chair the highest number of committees while the North East and South East chair the lowest number.

For distribution along party lines, all eight (8) political parties with seats in the House have at least one member chairing a standing committee. While the governing party chairs sixty (60%) of the Committees, the opposition parties chair fifty-four (54) of the one hundred and thirty-four (134) committees.
