Top 10 Reps by Bills Volume (Newbies) | National Assembly Scorecard

OrderPaper’s Performance Scorecard for the Third Session of the Ninth House of Representatives shows that a total of 1,979 bills were sponsored between June 2019 and May 2022.

 

Out of this tally, ten first-term lawmakers sponsored 226 bills representing 11.4% of the total number

Newbies

Data gathered from the 9th National Assembly Appraisals (Third Session) highlights these first-term lawmakers (newbies) as members of the House of Representatives with the most bills (in terms of volume).

 

Benjamin Okezie Kalu (APC, Abia State)
The legislator represents Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. In the period under review, he leads the first-term lawmakers in terms of bills tally with 45 bills in his name.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, he is official spokesperson for the Chamber.

 

Waive Ejiroghene Francis (APC, Delta State)

Coming into the House on a backlog of numerous litigations from the State High Courts to the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the first-time lawmaker sponsored 38 bills in three years.

In addition, the lawmaker representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/ Udu Federal Constituency is vying for a second term in 2023.

 

Onofiok Luke Akpan (PDP, Akwa Ibom State)
The lawmaker represents Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubom in the federal parliament and has so far sponsored 34 bills in the period under review.  

A former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, he currently chairs the House Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters. He however, joins the league of legislators that won’t be returning to the National Assembly after he contested the governorship ticket of his party and lost.

 

 

Dachung Musa Bagos (PDP, Plateau State)
The lawmaker representing Jos South/Jos East as a newbie in the federal parliament has so far, sponsored 33 bills in the period under review.

A member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he has since secured the nod of his party to run for a second term.

Simon Davou Mwadkwon (PDP, Plateau State)

The lawmaker representing Barikin Ladi/Riyom in the federal parliament has so far sponsored 23 bills in the period under review.

 

Yusuf Adamu Gagdi (APC, Plateau State )

The representative of Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam in the federal parliament has so far sponsored 21 bills in the period under review, including a bill converting the Federal College of Education, Pankshin to a full-fledged University of Education.

A former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, he currently chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Navy and has since secured his party’s ticket to return to the green chambers.

 

Abdullahi Saidu Musa (APC, Niger State)

The lawmaker representing Bida/Katcha/Gbako Federal Constituency has sponsored 19 bills in the period under review. 

He is currently the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Finance.

Ben Roland Igbakpa (NNPP, Delta State)

Representing Ethiope East/West Federal Constituency in the federal parliament, he has so far sponsored 17 bills in the period under review.

A former member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), he defected to the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) during the party primaries in 2022.

 

Unyime Josiah Idem (PDP,  Akwa Ibom State)

The lawmaker representing Ukanafun /Oruk Anam Federal Constituency came into the House in 2019. As a newbie, he sponsored 16 bills in three years.

Like his counterparts, Idem seeks to be re-elected for a second term in the National Assembly.

 

 

Mansur Manu Soro  (APC,  Bauchi State)

The lawmaker representing Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency has 12 bills to his credit in the period under review. He is one of the Under-40 lawmakers in the Ninth House of Representatives.
