With thirteen members from Imo State at the National Assembly, here’s the scorecard of Senators and members of the House of Representatives from the state. This piece is focused on their performance in the area of Bill Sponsorship over the last three years (2019 -2022)

THE SENATE SCORECARD
Representing Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Okorocha has fifteen bills to his name, including the 1999 Constitution (Alteration) Bill, 2020, in the period under review.
The Senator representing Imo East in the National Assembly has sponsored eleven bills in the last three years. Amongst bills sponsored by the lawmaker is the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Bill 2021, a piece of legislation seeking to prohibit the payment and receipt of ransom for the release of any person kidnapped, imprisoned or wrongfully confined.
A representative of Imo North Senatorial District at the Red Chamber, Ibezim has sponsored two bills since his election to parliament in April 2021. One of the bills is the legislation seeking the establishment of a National Research and Innovation Council, which was passed by the Senate.
Paschal Obi
The member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber has sponsored eighteen bills since the inception of the Ninth Assembly. His bills include the Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education Act (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
He was elected to the House on the platform of the Action Alliance (AA); he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February 2020. The Chairman of the House Committee on Health Institutions is also alleged to have left the fold of the APC for the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Henry Udocukwu Nwawuba
A representative of Ikeduru/Mbaitoli Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rep Nwawuba, has sponsored nine bills on the floor of the Green Chamber.
A second term-lawmaker in the National Assembly, he was elected on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) but left the party for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2022. He doubles as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Niger Delta.
Other lawmakers in the Green Chamber, who equally sponsored nine bills each, are:
- Mariam Onouha representing of Isiala Mbano/Okigwe/Onuimo Federal Constituency, and
- Ugonna Ozurigbo representing Isu/Njaba/Nkwere/Nwangele Federal Constituency; a former Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly who chairs the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
Rep. Bede Uchenna Eke representing Abo-Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, and Rep Elezieanya Ikenna Onyechere, representing Owerri Municipal/Owerri North/West Federal Constituency, have sponsored seven bills, respectively. They were both elected on the platform of PDP.

Kingsley Chima Uju
The lawmaker representing Ohaji/Egema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency sponsored five bills since his election to the Green Chamber in 2019.
Emeka Martins Chinedu
Representing Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency, the lawmaker sponsored four bills in the last three years.
Jerry Alagbasoso
Rep. Alagbasoso representing Orlu/Oru-East/Orsu Federal Constituency, sponsored just one bill since the inauguration of the Ninth Assembly.
Chike John
Rep. John representing Ehime Mbano/Ihite Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency, is one of the ten lawmakers from the state in the House of Representatives who have sponsored zero bills since 2019.
