The lawmaker representing Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency, Shamsudeen Dambazau, has hailed his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for its efforts at tackling the growing insecurity in the country.

According to the Kano lawmaker, who gave the commendation on Thursday during an interaction with the House of Representative Press Corps, the security situation in Nigeria has greatly improved over the years.

He stated that the federal government had put enough mechanisms in place to dislodge terrorists across the country but stressed that the issue of kidnappings needs to be really looked into as it has become a menace in Nigeria.

“The government gave a deadline and people should be held accountable for the responsibility given to them to achieve results. We are achieving results and more is expected to be achieved,” Dambazau said.

Speaking about the forthcoming elections, the lawmaker urged security agencies to provide the needed atmosphere for a successful election, adding that the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, would win the 2023 presidential polls.

Dismissing insinuations that Senator Tinubu was sick and unfit to rule Nigeria, Rep. Dambazau argued that “he is very well and there was nothing wrong with him. He has been a successful CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and also succeeded in everything he has laid his hands on.” He added that Tinubu was going from state to state, mobilising the youth ahead of the election.

The Kano lawmaker advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make the process of collecting the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) more seamless, stressing that the Electoral Act 2022 passed by the National Assembly has changed the game and Nigerians have no fear about the topic of  ‘under-aged voting.’

On the subject of defections, Rep. Dambazau stated that nothing was wrong with members’ defection from one political party to the other as situations warrant such in most instances. “There is nothing wrong with defection. After all, Nigeria is still a growing democracy like in the United States of America where you have just two political parties:Democrats and Republican.”

He thus defended his earlier defection from the APC to New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and back to the APC.

“It’s not another person’s body that took off and went to another political party. It is my body, so it does concern anyone what I do with my body. İ am in APC and very happy to be there so nobody has the right to judge me.”
