Borno State, in the north-east Nigeria, has a total of thirteen members in the National Assembly, comprising of three senators and ten representatives in the House
Borno, a state in the northeastern part of Nigeria, has Maiduguri as the capital. Nicknamed ‘God’s own state,’ Borno was created in 1976 when the former North-Eastern region was broken up.
“Borno” takes its name from the historic emirate of Borno, with the emirate’s old capital of Maiduguri serving as the capital city of Borno State. Borno State comprises twenty-seven (27) Local Government Areas. It has three senatorial districts and ten federal constituencies.
It is currently governed by Babagana Umara Zulum of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who has served as governor of Borno State since 2019.

Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan
Sen. Lawan is a first-term senator in the 10th Assembly, representing Borno Central Senatorial District under the platform of the APC. Sen. Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume
Sen. Ndume is serving his fourth term as a Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. He is currently the Chief Whip of the 10th Senate. In 2003, Senator Ndume was elected to represent the people of Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the All Nigeria People Party (ANPP) platform from 2003 to 2011.
On the inauguration of the sixth (6th) Assembly in 2007, he was unanimously elected as the Minority Leader. In December 2010, barely 100 days before the 2011 elections, Senator Ndume decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the injustices in the party as his reason for leaving. In 2011, he contested for a senatorial seat for Borno South and was elected under the platform of the PDP. In 2015, Senator Ndume decamped to the APC and is currently a member of the party.
Senator Ndume has chaired and participated in several committees, as the; Chairman of Army Committee from June 2019 to June 2023, Vice-Chairman of the Rules & Business Committee from June 2015 to June 2019 and also the Majority Leader in the Senate from 2015 to June 2019. Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno
Sen. Monguno, born on 12th February 1966, is a lawyer by profession and is serving his first term as a Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District under the Platform of the APC having served 16 years as a member of the House of Representatives representing Marte-Monguno-Nganzai Federal Constituency of Borno State.
He was the Majority Chief Whip of the 9th House of Representatives. The Lawmaker had served as Honourable Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General between 2003 and 2005, a small stint as Honourable Commissioner for Education (2005 – 2006) and Honourable Commission for Water Resources (2006 – 2007) in Borno state. Jaha, born on February 2nd 1974 is a second-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. Rep Mallam Gana Bukar Kareto
Rep. Kareto was born on December 31st 1969, in Borno State. He is currently serving his third time as a Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Kukawa/Mobbar/Abadam/Guzamala Federal Constituency of Borno State under the platform of the APC. Kareto was elected in 1995 to serve as a Councilor of Kareto Ward in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. He was re-elected for a second term in 1998. Rep. Rahis Abdulkadir
Rep. Abdulkadir was born on June 30th 1968, in Borno State. He is a third-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. In 1997, Rep. Abdulkadir was elected as ward chairman of his Shehuri south under the defunct UNDP. In 1999, he became the Treasurer of the APP for the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. He was subsequently appointed as a Board member of the El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club in 2003, rising to become the Board Chairman of the said club. From 2006 to 2011, Rep. Abdulkadir was elected as Borno State Youth Leader for two consecutive terms. In 2011, Governor Kashim Shettima appointed him as his Special Assistant before becoming the caretaker committee chairman of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, a position he held for five consecutive times from 2012 to 2015. Rep. Satomi Alhaji Ahmed
Rep. Ahmad, born on February 21st 1981, in Borno State, is a two-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC. Rep. Zannah is a two-term Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Kaga/Gubio/Magumeri Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the APC.
