Hon. Mallam Gana Bukar Kareto was born on December 31st 1969, in Borno State. Hon. Gana is a third-time Member of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly, representing the Kukawa/Mobbar/Abadam/Guzamala Federal Constituency of Borno State on the platform of the All Progressive Party (APC).
Hon. Kareto attended Immaculate Heart Secondary School in Maiduguri, Borno State, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate. In 2000, he graduated with an advanced diploma in business management from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi. Thereafter, he earned a Bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, in 2006. In 2006, he obtained a Master's degree in business administration from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.
Hon. Kareto was in 1995 elected to serve as a Councilor of Kareto Ward in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. He was re-elected for a second term in 1998. In 2004, he served as a Caretaker Chairman of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. In 2007, he was elected as a member of the Borno State House of Assembly. He held the position until 2011 when he was first elected to represent Kukawa/Mobbar/Abadam/Guzamalai Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja. In 2015 and 2023 he was re-elected under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
