Kawu says they will also look into the case of the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro.
The principal officers of the National Assembly have revealed that they will travel to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire to support the Nigerian team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ahead of the crucial quarterfinal match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Palancas Negras of Angola.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Sumaila Kawu (NNPP, Kano South), disclosed this information to reporters during a briefing on Wednesday in Abuja.
Recall that the Super Eagles defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon during the round of 16 to qualify for the quarter-finals at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.
Kawu however, noted that apart from the principal officers, the National Assembly Joint Committees on Sports will also travel to Abidjan to support them.
“I am happy with the performance of the Nigerian team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
“The principal officers of the National Assembly and the two Committees on Sports will also be in Cote d’Ivoire to watch the quarter-finals with Angola,” Sumaila said.
Further speaking on the fate of the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, Kawu said “We will look at it after the competition, am sure of victory for the Super Eagles against Angola.”
OrderPaper had rightly predicted that the performance of the Super Eagles at AFCON, among other issues, would be an issue to be raised at the resumption of the National Assembly. You can find our Legislative Intelligence Forecast Entry (LIFE) here.
