Following the April 15 National Assembly Supplementary Polls, APC clinches sixteen (16) of 31 House of Representatives seats, opposition parties hold on to eleven (11) seats.

On Saturday, April 15 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rounded up the 2023 National Assembly elections with the conduct of supplementary elections for outstanding seats in the 469-member federal parliament.
The supplementary polls were conducted by the election management body in no less than five (5) senatorial districts and about thirty-one (31) federal constituencies for varying reasons, including issues of irregularities which greeted the February 25 elections in parts of the country.
From the results announced so far, the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) secured sixteen (16) of the 31 House of Representatives seats contested in the Supplementary election and were closely followed by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) held on to eight (8) seats.
The third force parties, Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), each secured one seat in the supplementary exercise. Information on four seats across Akwa Ibom, Imo and Kebbi is still sketchy and were unavailable at the time of publishing this piece.

AKWA IBOM
1. Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency
Clement Jumbo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner with 22, 225 votes, defeating incumbent lawmaker Aniekan Umanah of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 20,793.
2. Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency
The supplementary polls could not hold in the constituency following the outbreak of violence in 17 polling units the exercise was slated to hold.
With the APC’s win, the party now has two out of the ten House of Representatives allotted to Akwa Ibom in the House of Representatives. The PDP holds seven other seats, while one is yet to be filled by any of the parties.
ANAMBRA
1. Ogbaru Federal Constituency
Victor Afam Ogene of the Labour Party (LP) emerged victorious, defeating Onyema Chukwuka Wilfred of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who is the incumbent lawmaker for the Constituency.
Ogene, a former federal lawmaker, polled 10,851 votes to defeat his arch-rival Onyema who got 10,619 votes.
With the National Assembly elections now concluded in the State, the Labour Party (LP) now has five (5) of the eleven (11) House of Representatives seats allotted to the South East state, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP) have five (5) seats and one seat respectively.
BAYELSA
1. Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency
Rodney Ambaiowei of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) unseated the incumbent legislator representing the Constituency, Preye Influence Oseke of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a former Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council.
The PDP polled 13,992 to defeat the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, who garnered 12,992 votes.
With this development, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) now occupies all five House of Representatives for Bayelsa State in the 10th Assembly.
EBONYI
1. Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency
Joseph Nwobashi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), with 11,896, defeated Emmanuel Nwite of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who got 11,150 votes.
Following the outcome of the supplementary polls, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has three (3) of the six (6) seats for Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives, while the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) occupy one (1) seat each.
EDO
1. Orhionmwon/Uhunmwonde Federal Constituency
Billy Osawaru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election.
With this outcome, the APC in Edo State now has five (5) seats in the House of Representatives, while the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) have two seats, and one seat, respectively.
IMO
1. Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Akarachi Amadi polled 21, 372 votes to defeat Uche Ogbuagu of the Labour Party (LP), who received 18, 296 votes.
The incumbent lawmaker, Henry Nwawuba, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Usmond Ukanacho, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 7,202 and 6,681 votes, respectively.
2. Isu/Njaba/Nkwere/Nwangele Federal Constituency
Information on the polls was not available when publishing this report.
From the current composition of the National Assembly, the APC in Imo State now occupies four (4) out of the ten (10) House of Representatives seats for Imo State. The PDP, however, has three (3) seats, while LP has two (2) seats.
JIGAWA
1. Gumel/Sule/Maigatari Gagarawa/Tankarkar Federal Constituency
The incumbent lawmaker, Sani Nazifi, was declared the winner with 49, 893 votes defeating his main rival, Ahmed Habu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 46,537 votes.
With this outcome, the APC in Jigawa State now has eight (8) seats in the House of Representatives, while the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) have two seats, and one seat, respectively.
KANO
1. Fagge Federal Constituency
Muhammad Bello Shehu of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) unseated the incumbent Rep member, Aminu Sulaiman Goro of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who is serving his 3rd term at the National Assembly.
Shehu polled 19,024 votes to defeat the candidate of the Labour Party, Shuaibu Abubakar, who came second with 12, 789 votes and the APC candidate, who came third with 8, 669 votes.
2. Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency
The embattled Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, emerged victorious in the supplementary elections, defeating the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate, Yushau Salisu.
Doguwa, who is currently facing murder charges, scored 41,573 votes against Yushau’s 34,831 to return for a fifth term in the House of Representatives.
With this development, the NNPP holds majority of the twenty-four (24) House of Representatives seats allotted to the state. It secured eighteen (18) seats while the All Progressives Congress (APC) occupies the other (six) seats.
KEBBI
1. Dandi/Arewa Federal Constituency

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) had previously secured three (3) seats each out of the eight (8) seats allotted to the North Western State in the House of Representatives.
KOGI
1. Dekinna/Bassa Federal Constituency
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Paul Haruna, polled 25,610 votes to defeat his closest rival, Okai Austin of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who managed to garner 11,621 votes.
APC’s win increases its hold on seats in the House of Representatives for Kogi State to five (5) out of the nine (9) seats so allotted, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) occupies two seats. The PDP was only able to secure one seat.
OYO
1. Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency
Abbas Agboworin of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who is the incumbent lawmaker for the constituency, won the election.
He garnered 28,111 votes ahead of his closest contender, Adedapo Lam-Adesina, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 27, 338 votes. Adedapo is the son of the late former Governor, Lam Adesina.
2. Oluyole Federal Constituency
Incumbent lawmaker and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tolulope Akande-Sadipe will be returning to the Green Chamber as she polled 14, 891 votes to defeat her closest rival, Olawale Mogbonjubola of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who had 13, 073 votes.
Of the fourteen (14) seats allotted to Oyo State in the House of Representatives, the All Progressives (APC) occupy nine (9) seats, while the PDP secured five (5) seats.
RIVERS
1. Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency
Incumbent lawmaker, Dunameme Robinson Dekor of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won the constituency’s election, polling 18,641 votes ahead of his closest rival, Friday Nkeeh of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 10,165 votes.
2. Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency
Similarly, a female candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Blessing Amadi, was declared winner of the election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Collins Owhonda, had previously withdrawn from the race 24 hours to the polls following his defection to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP holds eleven (11) of the thirteen House of Representatives seats in the State, while the APC and Labour Party (LP) secured one seat each.
SOKOTO
1. Denge-Shuni/Bodinga/Tureta Federal Constituency
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Shehu Nasiru, scored 40,994 votes to defeat his closest opponent and incumbent lawmaker, Shehu Balarabe Kakale, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 35,687 votes after the supplementary elections.
Kakale was elected as a member of the Federal House of Representatives in 2019 under the platform of the PDP.
2. Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency
Abdussamad Dasuki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) polled 47,317 votes to beat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bala Kokani, who scored 34, 282 votes.
3. Gudu/Tangaza Federal Constituency
Sani Yakubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered 23,473 votes to secure the House of Representatives seat.
4. Wurno/Rabah Federal Constituency
Incumbent lawmaker, Ibrahim Al-Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 23,497 votes
5. Gwadabawa/Illela Federal Constituency
Bello Ambarura of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the seat with 31,374 votes.
6. Kware/Wamakko Federal Constituency
Incumbent lawmaker, Abdullahi Kalambaina of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 43,344 votes.
7. Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency
Bala Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won
8. Binji/Silame Federal Constituency,
Sa’adu Nabunkari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won
9. Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency
Jelani Danbuga of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won
10. Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency
Bashir Gorau of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won the seat.
TARABA
1. Ussa/Donga/Takum Federal Constituency
Mark Bako Useni, a former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly and the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate polled 25,929 votes to emerge the winner.
He defeated the incumbent lawmaker, Rimam Shawulu of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), who polled 25, 350 votes while the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), also a former Speaker of the State Assembly, Istifanus Gbana, polled 20,234 to emerge the second runner up.
With this development, the APC and the PDP now hold three seats (3) each out of the total six (6) House of Representatives seats for the North Eastern State.
ZAMFARA
1. Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency
The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Suleiman Gummi, polled 35,664 votes to beat his closest opponent, Ahmad Muhammad of the All Progressives (APC), who scored 35,058 votes.
2. Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency
Similarly, Kabiru Amadu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scored 60,587 votes to defeat Sanusi Rikiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 52,495 votes.
With the outcome, the APC maintain its majority of House of Representatives seats in the State, holding four (4) of the total seven seats. The PDP, on the other hand, now has three (3) seats in the North Western State.
