This week’s edition of Parliament Spotlight is focused on the young entrepreneur, philanthropist and politician with a Master of Science degree in International Finance and Investment.

Abdul Rasheed Kashamu is the son of ex-Senator Buruji Kashamu, who represented Ogun East Senatorial District. Barely three years after his father’s demise, the young philanthropist secures his biggest breakthrough in politics.

The twenty-six-year-old member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was on Saturday, March 18, elected Member-Elect for Ijebu North Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

On Parliament Spotlight this week, we examine the antecedents of the young politician who was one of three Under-30 candidates that blazed the trail to emerge as legislators in the 2023 – 2027 electoral cycle.

  • Kashamu is arguably one of the youngest elected legislators in Nigeria.
  • The young entrepreneur is one of three Under-30 candidates to have emerged as legislators in the 2023 – 2027 electoral cycle.

 

LEGISLATIVE AGENDA

  • Kashamu promised to propose a bill that will promote crime and conflict prevention and also liaise with traditional rulers and security agents.
  • He also intends to support policies on development and improvement in primary economic activities, especially in trading, lumbering, farming and hunting.
  • The young lawmaker looks forward to initiating a bill in the promotion of quality education in his constituency through provisions of schools with learning facilities, materials and scholarships.
  • Create more social activities in the Constituency, such as sports and movie centres.

  • Creates more jobs by supporting artisans, market traders, farmers, businesses, youths, men and women with friendly loans and skill acquisition programmes.
