Lawmakers also called on government to provide adequate healthcare for Emmanuel Pam; the other victim who was injured in the sad event.
The House of Representatives has called for an urgent investigation, justice and compensation for the family of Kenneth Gyang, an eighteen-year-old allegedly killed by men of Operation Safe Haven; a Special Task Force in Plateau State.
The House, in a resolution during plenary on Tuesday, also called for the provision of adequate healthcare for the other victim who was injured following the sad event.
This resolution followed a motion moved by Rep. Dachung Musa Bagos due to unrest between his constituents who were on their way to a funeral and some security agents at Mararaban Jema’a near Kuru Jos.
Explaining, the Plateau lawmaker stated they were stopped by the personnel attached to the Special Task Force; Operation Safe Haven, stationed at the popular Vwei Mararaban Jama’a Kuru, Jos South LGA of Plateau State. He said the people pleaded with the security personnel to allow them to go to the mortuary to pick up the corpse of their deceased for burial and were only allowed access after an intense plea.

According to Rep. Bagos, on their way from the mortuary heading to church for the funeral service, the security personnel stopped them at the checkpoint and denied them access. He added that some youths on a motorcycle came down to plead with the security personnel, but one of them shot at two of the youths, killing the 18-year-old Gyang in the process. Gyang and the other victim, Emmanuel Pam, who was injured were among the mourners conveying the corpse from Zawan to Kuru for burial.
He also noted that the security personnel shot sporadically and in the process, scared off residents of the community, who abandoned their businesses and vehicles in search of safety, explaining that funeral processions never had such confrontation or prohibition either by order or convention from the security agents at checkpoints in Jos and environs. Rep. Bagos stressed that the precious and sacred life of Kenneth; an innocent and promising young man, was untimely and arbitrarily terminated by an officer that ought to have guaranteed his safety.
The House further observed a minute silence in respect of the victim and mandated the Commandant of the Special Task Force to investigate the killing of Gyang and ensure justice is done with compensation to his family and proper medical care for the injured.
