The motion sponsor lamented that besides the deaths recorded in the Ondo Petrol tanker explosion, other people sustained different degrees of injuries.
The House of Representatives has resolved to set up an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the petrol tanker explosion, which occurred at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, claiming over thirty (30) lives.
The lawmakers also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to immediately send relief materials to affected victims and settle the medical bills of those hospitalised.
This is as it set up an Adhoc Committee to unravel the cause of the incident within four weeks with a view to proffering solutions and preventing recurrence in other parts of the country.
These resolutions followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Rep. Festus Ayodele Adefiranye representing Ileluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency of Ondo State, during Wednesday’s plenary.

In his debate, Rep. Adefiranye described the incident as an “unfortunate loss that over thirty lives including that of a pregnant woman, three children and at least twenty- five (25) other persons on Sunday, July 23, 2023, when a tanker laden with Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control at Ore town in Odigbo Local government area of Ondo state.
He said besides the deaths recorded, other people sustained various degrees of injuries, adding that the incident hindered normal, social and economic activities in Ore town.

The lawmaker lamented the dangerous and arbitrary parking by truck drivers, which not only limits the free flow of vehicular movement on the highway but, has led to the loss of many lives on the road.
While expressing concern at the recurrence of such incidents across the country, he queried the qualifications of the drivers of such trucks of inflammable content. The Ondo lawmaker further noted that the affected persons will need the support of government agencies responsible for emergency cases.
In adopting the motion, the House observed a minute silence in honor of those that lost their lives in tragic incidents and urged the Nigeria Police Force and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to clear the trucks on the highway in order to forestall future occurrences.
