Nigeria’s North East geo-political zone has six States comprising Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe. In this Third-Year Appraisal of the Ninth National Assembly, we examine the performance of the federal lawmakers from the North East since 2019.
The zone has 18 Senators and 48 Members in the House of Representatives representing these six states, respectively.
SENATE SCORECARD
In the period under review, the performance of the North East Senators in terms of bill sponsorship in the third year of the 9th National Assembly varied. The lawmakers however, sponsored a total of 78 bills, constituting 7.73% of the 1,009 Senate bills sponsored since 2019.

FEMALE LAWMAKERS
Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (APC, Adamawa Central) is the only female Senator from the zone and has sponsored 11 bills since 2019.

EX-GOVERNORS
- Senator Kashim Shettima (APC, Borno Central) with ten bills.
- Senator Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) who has four bills in his name.
- Senator Ibrahim Gaidam (APC, Yobe East) trailed behind with two bills to his credit.

BILLS PRODUCTIVITY (NORTH EAST SENATE CAUCUS)
The leading Senator in this category is:
- Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, the only female Senator from the zone and lawmaker representing Adamawa Central, has 11 bills to her credit since 2019. Out of which one has received presidential assent, five have been passed for concurrence, while others are at different stages of legislative consideration.
She is currently the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State for the March 11 2023 election.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SCORECARD
Like their counterparts in the Senate, the lawmakers in the House of Representatives from the North East geo-political zone also recorded varied performance in terms of bills sponsorship. They accounted for 203 bills which constitute 10.26% of the total of 1,979 bills sponsored by lawmakers in the green chamber.
