The Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill, which the House of Representatives earlier passed on 29th February 2024 was transmitted to the Senate for concurrence.
The Senate has read and passed for first reading, a bill seeking the establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps.
In light of this, the Senate will soon consider a motion for concurrence, which will be moved by the Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), allowing the Senate to adopt the Bill in accordance with the National Assembly’s extant laws.
OrderPaper recalls that the National Commandant of Nigeria, Dr. Dickson Akoh, established the Nigerian Peace Corps over 25 years ago. It is incorporated in Nigeria under the Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) and accorded the Federal Government recognition through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and granted a license to operate in the Country as a Non-Governmental Organization by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning.
