Reps demand solutions to tackle fuel scarcity
Rep. Umar Ajilo

At the resumption of plenary on Tuesday after Easter and Salah recess, OrderPaper’s Legislative Intelligence Forecast Entry (LIFE) on fuel scarcity came true as the House of Representatives expressed deep concern over the resurgence of fuel scarcity in Nigeria, with reports indicating exorbitant prices of up to a thousand two hundred Naira per litre in some states.

The lawmakers highlighted the failure of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to effectively address the persistent fuel scarcity issues despite ample resources at its disposal.

The lawmakers agreed that the honourable Ministers of Petroleum Resources and all relevant stakeholders in the petroleum sector be invited to the hallowed chambers to brief Nigerians on the measures put in place to end this current fuel scarcity and avert future recurrence.

This resolution was reached following the matter of urgent national importance raised by Rep. Umar Ajilo (PDP,  Kaduna) titled “Need to address the lingering fuel scarcity”

Ajilo, in presenting the motion, emphasized the dire situation faced by Nigerians, stating, “This fuel scarcity is coming at a time when the adverse economic effects caused by fuel subsidy removal are yet to be addressed by the government, not to mention the current hiccups of Nigerian masses.

“NNPCL  is yet to address the  persistent fuel scarcity problems caused by the Nigerians despite the volume of resources at their disposal.”

Adding that “These economic problems have made the life of average Nigerians unbearable as a litre of fuel sales as much as N1200 in some States of the federation”

The Kaduna lawmaker urged the House to rise to the occasion to ensure that lasting measures are taken to address this unfortunate and embarrassing situation permanently in the interest of all Nigerians.

STAR Check: Nigerians, particularly, constituents of Makarfi/Kudan, can keep tabs on the legislative performance of Rep. Ajilo throughout the 10th House here.
