Senator Victor Umeh (LP, Anambra Central) has lamented over how his 3 months old son was killed by a domestic staff.

Senator Umeh disclosed this on Monday while speaking at a public hearing on a bill seeking for an Act to provide for domestication and documentation of domestic workers and employers in Nigeria.

The public hearing on the bill, sponsored by Senator Babangida Hussaini (APC, Jigawa north-west), was organised by the senate committee on employment, labour and productivity chaired by Senator Diket Plang (APC, Plateau Central).

According to the Umeh, the lives of the employers of domestic staff are at risk as well as those of the domestic workers themselves.

He then went down memory lane: “My second son who was 3 months old was killed by my domestic staff. It turned out the girl suffocated the baby. We didn’t know until she tried to kill my daughter. We heard a scream and that was when we found out.”

Speaking further, he said, “When we think that it is only the domestic staff that is abused, the employer is also at risk. We have to protect the employer as well.”

STAR Check: Nigerians, particularly, constituents of Anambra Central district, can keep tabs on the legislative performance of Sen. Umeh throughout the 10th senate here.
