Electricity Tariff Hike: House of Reps to address citizens’ concerns

Kalu reiterated the commitment of the House of Representatives to address the recent surge in electricity tariffs upon resumption from recess.

Amidst mounting public outcry over the recent surge in electricity tariffs, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu (APC, Abia), has pledged that the House will confront citizens’ concerns head-on as the Green Chamber reconvenes for plenary sessions.

He made this known during a virtual appearance on a special edition of “Ben Kalu’s Mandate,” a popular call-in radio program on FLO FM, Umuahia, Abia State.

The Deputy Speaker stressed that the parliament would adopt a win-win approach in resolving the issues surrounding the tariff hike, which has generated widespread outcry and concerns about its impact on the country’s economy saying: “We are committed to engaging with stakeholders and finding solutions that promote national development and welfare”

Responding to a caller’s inquiry about the National Assembly giving Nigerians a constitution that is acceptable to all, Rep. Kalu emphasised the importance of the people’s input in the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).

Kalu’s Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu lauded the Deputy Speaker’s proactive stance on the electricity tariff hike and the constitution review which demonstrates the House’s dedication to serving the interests of the Nigerians

He noted that the Deputy Speaker’s statements underscore the Tenth House of Representatives’ commitment towards addressing key issues affecting Nigerians and finding solutions that benefit all stakeholders.
