2023: Appeal Court reinstates Senator Binani as APC Guber Candidate
The Court of Appeal sitting in Yola on Thursday set aside the High Court ruling nullifying the primary election that produced Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani) as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa.
A three-member panel led by Justice Tani Hassan unanimously set aside the lower court’s judgments on Thursday; ordering that her name be re-submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s flagbearer.
Nuhu Ribadu, a former anti-corruption czar, had alleged in court that vote buying and illegal delegates list characterised the May 27, 2022, primary election leading the Federal High Court in Yola to nullify her candidacy. The court ruled that there was substantial evidence proving non-compliance with the party guidelines and that of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Taraba Guber: Senator Bwacha secures victory at Appellate Court
In a related development, the Appellate Court in Yola reinstated a former Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba state.
Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Jalingo, Taraba had on September 20, sacked Senator Bwacha after a petition by an ex-aspirant, David Kente. The judge had argued that it is not possible for all the primary results to have the same handwriting, while the returning officer declared that no primary was held in the state at the police headquarters due to security threats.
The Taraba lawmaker thereafter appealed the judgement and alleged that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State is the major cause of APC’s problems within the state.
2023: About quarter of Ekiti registered voters yet to claim PVCs – INEC
Nigeria’s election management body says about 24 per cent of registered voters in Ekiti State are yet to pick up their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2023 general elections.Professor Ayobami Salami, the newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti, made the disclosure on Wednesday during a visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ado Ekiti.
“We have a total number of 988,923 registered voters out of which 754,886 voters have collected their PVCs, while 234,037, representing 24 per cent are yet to collect their PVCs,” he noted.

Court sacks 4 Labour Party State Assembly candidates in Rivers
All appears not to be well in the Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party, as a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt nullified the nomination of four of the party’s State Assembly candidates.
Presiding Judge, Justice Turaki Mohammed in his judgment on Tuesday, agreed with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that the Labour Party failed to comply with the Electoral Act in the primary elections conducted for the four State House of Assembly candidates.
Accordingly, he directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to delist the names of the affected Labour Party candidates, including those of Obio/Akpor 1 and 2, Tai and Gokana State constituencies.
