Rivers State, south-south Nigeria, has a total of sixteen members in the National Assembly, comprising three senators and thirteen representatives in the house
Rivers state has Port-Harcourt as its capital. Nicknamed as ‘treasure base of the nation,’ the state was formed on 27th May 1967 with the splitting of the defunct Eastern region of Nigeria. It is named after the many rivers that border its territory and comprises 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs). The current governor of the state is Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who emerged as the seventh civilian governor of the state in 2023.
