Barely 48 hours, Yar'Adua replaces Ningi as Northern Senators new Chairman

Barely 48 hours after the resignation of Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) as Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF), Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua (APC Katsina Central), has announced his emergence as the new Chairman.

This was a sequel to the unanimous endorsement by Senators across the three geo-political zones in the North who also appointed Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North) as Publicity Secretary of the forum, a position held by Senator Summaila Kawu (NNPP, Kano South).

This was disclosed by Senator Yar’Adua while addressing journalists at the National Assembly on Thursday.

OrderPaper recalls that Senator Ningi resigned as the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum following his suspension for three (3) months over his statements on an alleged N3trn padding in the 2024 budget.

According to Yar’Adua, the primary goal of the Northern Forum is to advance Nigeria’s interests, which is followed by the development of the North, by working with their counterparts in the South and collaborating with the executive branch of government to make sure that the problems facing the region are addressed.

He said: “We Shall therefore work in consultation with our distinguished colleagues to preserve the unity and progress of our dear nation. In advancing these noble objectives, I am committed to streamlined activities within the Northern Senators Forum.

“We shall operate with transparency, accountability, and integrity, upholding the trust placed on us by the electorate. Our legislative discourse will continue to be characterized by civility, dignity, and adherence to the rule of law as we fulfil our lawmaking, policy-making, and oversight functions.

“I am confident that with our collective efforts and cooperation, we can effect positive change, uplift the North, and contribute to the overall development of our great nation.”
