House Committee on Interior said it will investigate irregularities surrounding the issuance of international passports and the utilization of resident permits in Nigeria.

The House of Representatives Committee on Interior has announced its intention to investigate irregularities surrounding the issuance of international passports and the utilization of resident permits in Nigeria.

This decision follows petitions and complaints received from concerned Nigerians regarding the processes involved.

The Chairman, House Committee on Interior represented by the Vice Chairman, Rep. Ganiyu Adele (APC Lagos) revealed this during an interactive session with management staff of IRIS smart technology and Continental transfer technique.

Adele said, “The aim of the probe is to identify any shortcomings or irregularities and implement necessary reforms to improve the system.”

He emphasized that the investigation was crucial for upholding the integrity of immigration procedures and ensuring that citizens and residents receive fair and timely treatment.

The Committee had in a letter to the Managing Directors of the relevant agencies requested details of the agreements, terms of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or contract signed with the Federal Government with a view to improving the services that conform with international best practices.

The committee said it will investigate the expatriate quota as part of its statutory mandate as no individual or entity can give an accurate number of expatriate residents in Nigeria.

Adele reiterated that the integrity of immigration procedures and the equitable treatment of citizens and residents hinge on the outcomes of these investigations.
