Of the 475 bills processed in the first year of the 10th senate, principal and presiding officers account for 18 percent
Between June 2023 and May 2024, principal and presiding officers of the 10th senate sponsored 86 bills, amounting to 18 percent of all senate bills.
Here is a breakdown of the bills tally for each of the principal and presiding officers:
PRESIDING OFFICERS
GODSWILL AKPABIO
Currently serving as the 15th president of the Senate, the lawmaker representing Akwa-Ibom north-west on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) sponsored 2 bills under the year in review and 100 percent of these are awaiting second reading. A two-term senator, Akpabio was also the governor of Akwa-Ibom for 8 years. Prior to his election as the president of the senate, he was once a minority leader in 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
BARAU JIBRIN
The lawmaker representing Kano north on the platform of APC emerged as the deputy president of the senate after his nomination was unopposed. In the just concluded year, he sponsored 22 bills out of which 90.9 percent are awaiting second reading and 4.5 percent were passed.

MAJORITY CAUCUS
OPEYEMI BAMIDELE
Representing Ekiti central, the lawmaker who is currently serving as the majority leader sponsored 17 bills under the year in review. Of this number, 47.1 percent are awaiting second reading, 11.7 percent are at committee and 41.2 percent were passed.
OYELOLA ASHIRU
A second term senator, the lawmaker representing Kwara south is serving as the deputy majority leader of the 10th assembly. During the first year, he sponsored 5 bills, all of which are awaiting second reading.
TAHIR MONGUNO
The lawmaker representing Borno north sponsored 23 bills under the year in review. 95.6 percent of these bills are awaiting second reading while 4.3 percent are awaiting committee report. He is currently the chief whip of the senate. Previously, he was chief whip of the 9th house of representatives and a member of several committees.
NWEBONYI PETER ONYEKA
A first-time senator representing Ebonyi north and currently serving as the deputy whip, he sponsored 2 bills under the year in review. 50 percent of these bills are awaiting second reading while 50 percent are at the committee stage.

MINORITY CAUCUS
ABBA MORO
The lawmaker representing Benue south sponsored 5 bills under the year in review. 80 percent of these bills are awaiting second reading while 20 percent are at committee. He is a two-term senator of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and serves as the minority leader.
KAMORUDEEN OLARERE
A PDP lawmaker representing Osun west and serving as the deputy minority leader, he sponsored 2 bills under the year in review both of which are awaiting second reading.
OSITA NGWU
The first-time lawmaker representing Enugu west sponsored 5 bills under the year in review. 80 percent of these bills are awaiting second reading while 20 percent are at committee stage. He is currently serving in the capacity of minority whip.
