The bills performance chart of Nasarawa state lawmakers is led by a ranking senator newbie member of the House of Representatives respectively
The primary responsibility of lawmakers is to make laws for the good governance of the people aside from oversight and representation. Out of a total number of 1,650 bills sponsored in the 10th National Assembly in one year, eight lawmakers representing Nasarawa state account for 32 bills only. However, 90 percent of these bills are still awaiting second reading.
According to OrderPaper’s detailed analysis of bills processed between June 2023 and May 2024, the three senators representing the state account for 15 of the 475 bills sponsored in the Senate, and in the House of Representatives, five members from the state seventeen.
Sen. Godiya Akwashiki representing the north senatorial district, who is a second termer, accounted for one bill only, while ranking senator Aliyu Wadada representing the west and Sen. Mohammed Onawo representing the south (a newbie) sponsored ten and four bills respectively.
The first year performance as exhibited by Sen. Godiya falls below expectations being a former deputy speaker of Nasarawa state assembly.
Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, Rep. Jeremiah Umaru representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba (a newbie) recorded nine bills which places him ahead of Jonathan Gweffi Gaza representing Kokona/Keffi/Karu who is a 3rd termer with record of five only. Others are Rep. Dahiru Sarki representing Laffai/Obi, also a third termer, recorded nil bill. Rep. Hassan Nalaraba representing Awe/Doma/Keana accounted for 3 bills while Ari Mohammed representing Nasarawa Toto recorded a bill within the period under review.
