Senator Godiya had served as a member of the Nasarawa State Assembly (2011-2019), under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). In 2019 Senator Akwashiki contested for and won the Nasarawa North senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
