Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi is a third-term Senator, born December 10, 1950. He has been the Senator representing Kebbi North Senatorial District from 2015 till date.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State. He went on to obtain his PhD in Rural Sociology from the same University in 1983.
Senator Yahaya had been an academician before delving into the Nigerian Civil Service and politics. In his alma mater, ABU, Zaria and the University of Lagos, he held several teaching and research positions, ranging from Honorary Research Fellow to Associate Professor/Principal Research Fellow. He has also headed the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology in ABU, Zaria.
In 2015, Senator Yahaya was elected into the 8th Assembly Senate under the All Progressives Congress, APC. He was re-elected in 2019 into the 9th Assembly, where he served as the Senate's Majority Leader until he defected to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Under the PDP, he was re-elected into the 10th Assembly, inaugurated on June 13, 2023.
Senator Yahaya was inducted into the first-ever Most Valuable Parliamentarian (MVP) Hall of Fame in May 2023. Out of the 469 Lawmakers in the 9th Assembly, he was one of the only five inducted into the Hall of Fame as a distinct class of legislators who had proven to be performance-driven, excellence-inspired, public-spirited and exhibited exemplary leadership.
