Born on 2nd October 1976 in Nabordo village of Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the lawmaker is serving his first term as a senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District at the 10th National Assembly.
Senator Umar started his career as a classroom Teacher, then became a Special Assistant and Senior Special Assistant at different times and different offices to the Bauchi State Governor of the then Governor Isah Yuguda's administration.
Senator Umar was also once a Special Adviser to the former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Chairman, and functions in different committees, such as the Farmer's-Herders Conflict Resolution Committee, Plateau State; Chairman, Farmers-Herders Conflict Resolution Committee to the Federal Government of Nigeria;
Senator Umar is an Executive Director of Business Development-Aquawave Oil and Gas.
