Honourable Julius Omozuanvbo Ihonvbere was born June 26, 1946, in Edo State. He is serving a second term as a Member of the House of Representatives.
The Member representing Owan West/Owan East Federal Constituency began his professional career as an Assistant Lecturer. He started in the International Relations Department at his Alma mater, University of Ife. He went on to other teaching appointments, including lecturing in the Department of Political Science, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Also, Honourable Ihonvbere joined another of his alma maters, the University of Toronto, Canada, where he bagged his PhD in Political Science and later served as a visiting Professor in Political Science.
In 1993, he moved to the United States of America (USA) as an Associate Professor in Political Science Houston-Tillotson College, Austin, Texas. His final lecturing position was at The University of Texas at Austin, where he was Professor of Government.
He then joined the Ford Foundation in New York, USA, as Program Officer, responsible for handling the portfolio on Pluralism and Governance from 1997 to 2002.
Honourable Ihonvbere has served in different capacities, including Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), founding President of the Organisation of Nigerians in the Americas (ONA), Co-coordinator of the Global Network of Nigerian Organizations (GNNO), and Vice-chair of the United Democratic Front of Nigeria (UDFN) – a coalition of pro-democracy, nationality, and human rights groups in North America and Europe.
In the 9th Assembly, he served as the Chairman House Committee on Basic Education and was re-elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 10th Assembly.
