Sen. Konbowei Friday Benson was born on 3rd February 1962 in the Korokorosei community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
The lawmaker is currently serving his first term as a Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District under the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and former Secretary to the State government Sen. Konbowei Friday Benson started out as a petty trader on virtually every local farm produce, such as ogbono, snail, and water snail, and gradually moved to food items before the desire to venture into politics played a prominent in his life.
In 1991, Sen. Konbowei Friday Benson registered with the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) and by dint of hard work in the face of harsh economic realities became elected as a pioneer councilor in Southern Ijaw Local Government Council in the old Rivers State representing the good people of ward three.
There isn’t much anyone can do for his people as councilor and seeing the prospects in a political career, he again by sheer humility and loyalty worked his way into the hearts of his people, this time at the local government level and on the platform of the Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) contested for the Chairmanship of the largest local government Area.
Amidst strong opposition from very big and intimidating names in the political arena at the time, Sen. Konbowei Friday Benson won and became the Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council in 1997.
After his days as Chairman, which was quite brief due military incursion at the time, he returned to his business life as there has been no dull moments in this very enterprising life.
This time business took him far into the northern, western and eastern parts of the country, buying and selling.
