Prior to his election to the 10th National Assembly, Senator Bassey was the 12th Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly(2019) He joined Mainstream politics in 2014 and had served in several capacities, including Chairman House Committee on Science and Technology 2018, Chairman House committee on Parliamentary Affairs, and also Chairman House Services Committee.
