Sen. Godswill is currently serving his second-term as a Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He is currently serving as the Senate president of the 10th senate, and had served as Governor of Akwa Ibom State (May 29, 2007 – May 29, 2015).
Before venturing into politics, Sen. Godswill began his early career as a teacher and as an associate partner with Paul Usoro and Co., later joined EMIS Telecoms Limited, where he also served as the National Publicity Secretary of the Association of Telecommunication Companies in Nigeria, (ATCOM), while a director of EMIS.

All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akwa Ibom North West District, Senator Godswill Akpabio has vowed to offer greater services to the people of the district, if voted in the February election. The former Senate Minority Leader made the vow during the kicked-off of his ward tour of the district in Oruk Anam Local Government Area on Wednesday, with a call on the people to cast their votes for the APC at the presidential, senatorial, and other elections for quality development.
