The president and his chief of staff join others to mourn Na’Abba, the former Reps speaker who passed earlier today
The Nigerian presidency has expressed sadness over the death of former House of Representatives Speaker, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, who died in the wee hours of Wednesday, 27 December 2023.
President Bola Tinubu, in a statement to mourn Na’Abba issued by Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, described the late speaker in glowing terms.
Also, the President’s chief of staff and immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has joined other prominent Nigerians in expressing their profound grief over the demise of the late legislative icon.
In a message on his personal X (formerlyTwitter) handle, Gbajabiamila noted that Na’Abba contributed immensely to the growth and development of the National Assembly.
“I mourn the passage of the former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Na’Abba. He contributed immensely to the institution of the National Assembly and served the country with pride. May Allah grant him aljanah Firdaus,” he posted.
Also paying tribute, former Majority Leader of the House, Rep. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa expressed sadness over the demise of his kinsman.
He said the former speaker’s death is a loss to the entire Kano State and the country as a whole. “It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of Former Speaker Ghali Umar Na Abba. His death is not just a loss for his family and loved ones but also a significant loss for our state and the nation as a whole.
“Former Speaker Na Abba’s legacy as a dedicated public servant and leader will forever be etched in our hearts. His commitment to the betterment of our society, combined with his exceptional leadership during his tenure as Speaker, has left an indelible mark.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May Allah forgive him and grant him Jannatul Firdous, amin,” he said.
The former speaker died at the age of 65 in Abuja. He was the House of Representatives Speaker from 1999 to 2003.
