The House of Representatives is set to resume its second session of the 10th Assembly and hold the inaugural legislative week
Barring last minute changes, the House of Representatives has announced the resumption of its second session of the 10th National Assembly on Thursday, June 27, 2024.
This was contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the House, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr. (APC Ekiti).
Rotimi stated that the development was communicated to Honourable Members via an internal memorandum from the Clerk, House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq, on Monday, June 24, 2024.
OrderPaper recalls that the House adjourned plenary sitting on June 11, 2024 at the end of the first session to enable members of the green chamber celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festivities with their constituents.
According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu will on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2024, declare open the inaugural Legislative Open Week scheduled to end on Friday, 5th July, 2024.
The event is themed “Improving Inclusion through Citizens Engagement” and aims to promote an open parliament and active participation of citizens in legislative and governance processes. This initiative aligns with Agenda 6 (Inclusion & Open Parliament) of the Legislative Agenda of the People’s House.
“This initiative is particularly significant as we celebrate 25 years of uninterrupted representative democracy in Nigeria. Thus, the initiative will provide a platform for the legislature and citizens to reflect on our democratic journey, challenges faced, and aspirations for the future,” the statement read.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been slated as the Special Guest of Honour for the occasion while the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio (APC Akwa Ibom) will be the guest of honour, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas ( APC Kaduna) is the chief host for the event.
State governors, members of the diplomatic community, and all Nigerians have also been invited to participate.
