Tinubu seeks Senate confirmation of NPC nominees

President Tinubu has requested the Senate’s confirmation of 19 nominees as commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC).

Ahead of the planned conduct of a national census, President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to approve his nominees for appointment into the National Population Commission (NPC).

The President’s request was contained in a letter read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday during plenary. The list contains prospective commissioners to represent states as well as geo-political zones of the country.

The nominees for states are as follows:

  1. Emmanuel Eke (Abia)
  2. Clifford Zirra (Adamawa)
  3. Chidi Ezeoke (Anambra)
  4. Isa Buratai (Borno)
  5. Alex Ukam (Cross River)
  6. Blessyn Brume-Ataguba (Delta)
  7. Jeremiah Nwankwegu (Ebonyi)
  8. Tony Aiyejina (Edo)
  9. Ejike Ezeh (Enugu)
  10. Abubakar Damburam (Gombe)
  11. Uba Nnabue (Imo)
  12. Dogon Garba (Kaduna)
  13. Aminu Tsanyawa (Kano)
  14. Yori Afolabi (Kogi)
  15. Olakunle Sobukola (Ogun)
  16. Temitayo Oluwatuyi (Ondo)
  17. Mary Afan (Plateau)
  18. Ogiri Henry (Rivers
  19. Saany Sale (Taraba)

The nominations of Babajide Fasina (South-West), Enorense Amadasu (South-South), and Bashir Indabawa (North-West) were also contained to be confirmed as NPC commissioners.

Akpabio, after reading the letter on the floor of the Senate, referred it to the Committee on National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), giving it one week to provide a report for the consideration of the Senate.

Meanwhile,  the Senate also confirmed Mr Akawor Desmond as a member representing Rivers in the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

This confirmation followed the presentation and consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs during plenary.
