44-year-old Physiotherapist, Maryam Shetty, had on Wednesday been surprisingly nominated to serve in the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Her dreams to become Minister has however been postponed following President Tinubu’s latest action. Here’s why:

President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn the nomination of Maryam Shettima Ibrahim from Kano State and replaced her with Dr. Mariya Mahmud.
This was disclosed on Friday at the commencement of plenary ahead of the Senate’s screening of President Tinubu’s second batch of nominees
In a communication to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu further included a former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) as a Ministerial nominee from Delta State.
The Senate has further dissolved into a Committee of the Whole to begin the screening of the nineteen nominees sent in by the President on Wednesday for possible confirmation as Ministers of the Government of the Federation.

About Maryam Shettima Ibrahim
Popularly known as Maryam Shetty, she is a 44-year-old physiotherapist, social entrepreneur and political activist.
A granddaughter to the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and niece to the current Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero as well as the Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado Bayero, she received her early education in Kano.
She later bagged a Bachelor of Science degree (with distinction) from the Federal School of Physiotherapy in Bayero University (BUK), before working briefly with Dala Orthopedic Hospital and Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital respectively, in Kano State. Maryam would then proceed to the University of East London, Stratford, in the United Kingdom, to earn a Masters Degree in Sports Physiotherapy.
Amongst many other certifications, she holds a certificate in Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century from the University of Virginia and a Kingian Non-Violence Practitioner Certificate from Emory University in the United States. The 44-year-old physiotherapist also recently received an Honorary Degree from the ESGT University of Technology, Benin Republic, for her outstanding leadership and community development efforts.
A member of the medical team during the 2012 London Olympics, Maryam worked with elite athletes including the Jamaican-born World Record Holder, Usain Bolt. Her work in the clinical and international development sectors further led her to contribute to the UKAid-funded Programme, PATHS 2, leading her to provide her expertise at the State House Clinic in the Presidential Villa, as well as the Child Care and Wellness sector.
The dedicated chieftain of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, is the National Leader of #webelieve!🇳🇬 Movement; an APC Support Group and she served on the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 Presidential Campaign Council. The philanthropist also served on the party’s Governorship Campaign Team while handling Field Operations and Strategic Communication on the Youth and Women Presidential Campaign Team.
